Justice UU Lalit, the CJI-nominated, has made three major announcements regarding reforms during his 74-day tenure as the next Chief Justice of India.
Speaking at the farewell function organized by SCBA (Supreme Court Bar Association) for outgoing CJI NV Ramana, Justice UU Lalit made the following announcements:-
More transparency in the listing system.
A system will be put in place to independently mention the instant list of cases.
Efforts will be made that the Constitution Bench should function throughout the year.
Justice UU Lalit began his address by saying that he cannot match the popularity of Justice Ramana.
He also mentioned the two major achievements of CJI Ramana, clearing judicial vacancies and the importance given to judicial infrastructure.
Justice UU Lalit pointed out that the efforts made by CJI Ramana and the National Legal Services Authority to set up legal aid defense lawyers in all districts are now visible.
Significantly, Justice Lalit will be the 49th Chief Justice of India and he will take oath on August 27.
